Pioneering Project Providing Free Cochlear Implants to Poor Patients: In many third world countries there is no governmental facility for the poor to get access to Cochlear Implantation (a cure for total deafness). A child who is born or becomes totally deaf is deprived of hearing everyday sounds and it is almost impossible for them to develop spoken language. Approximately 250,000 people worldwide have received cochlear implants (to date) and the vast majority have been done in developed countries (approx. £20,000 per implant).
