The IMRA ENT Cochlear Implant team started its First Free programme on Sunday 19th December 2021 in a very prestigious Hospital, Islamabad alongside local doctors.
Two FREE Cochlear Implants on 2-year-olds from Bannu (KPK) and Mansera (KPK) was performed; the total costs along with services given free amounted to over £25000 ($33000). All this was due to the generous support from people who care about giving deaf children a Gift of Speech and Hearing.
The Cochlear Implant surgeries were relayed in a meeting room where other medical colleagues could view the operations on a large screen and could ask questions directly to the Surgeon or to ENT professionals from the UK in the room.
IMRA also had meetings with the Executive Director of PAF Hospital to continue this programme and he gave his full support.
A Cochlear Implant is a device put into a patient with severe to profound hearing loss. If a patient is congenitally deaf it should ideally be implanted before 2-4 years.
By the Grace of Allah, the ENT department at PAF Hospital with IMRA’s support and expertise successfully implanted two underprivileged patients. A mother of one child who was implanted gave an interview and said:
"OUR FAMILY IS GRATEFUL TO PAF HOSPITAL STAFF AND IMRA CHARITY FOR PROVING A FREE COCHLEAR IMPLANT. I RATE THE SERVICE PROVIDED 10 OUT OF 10 FOR THE TREATMENT RECEIVED."
We need your support to implant more children from the Northern areas of Pakistan. They are more underprivileged and have less access to good quality medical resources.
Please donate whatever you can. IMRA is now in its 20th year and in the last week of December 2021 achieved the landmark figure of 100 Free Cochlear Implants.
This is the largest Free Cochlear Implant Programme in the world.
